Southampton can look forward to a big FA Cup semi-final at Wembley after overcoming the challenge of giant-killers Wigan Athletic on Sunday.

The League One outfit shockingly knocked out Manchester City in the last round and were a difficult outfit to face in Mark Hughes’ first game in charge, but Saints produced a professional performance to eventually see the game out as 2-0 winners.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored the opener before Cedric Soares netted just before the final whistle, delighting supporters who need to see their form improving after the dismissal of Mauricio Pellegrino.

Fans were particularly pleased with Mark Hughes’ substitutions, offering praise to Nathan Redmond, who added fresh attacking impetus to the Saints side at a critical time of the match.

He certainly put himself into contention for a start next week and fans will be eager to see if he can maintain form under the guidance of their new boss.
