The Aston Villa fans have been on social media debating whether midfielder Glenn Whelan should be handed a new contract by the club.

Whelan will see his current deal with Villa expire at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

The 35-year-old has been heavily involved for the first team this season, scoring once and providing three assists in 30 appearances in all competitions.

A very experienced campaigner, Whelan is also a 85-time Republic of Ireland international and certainly knows his way around a football pitch.

The Villa fans are struggling to agree, however, when it comes to whether the midfielder, who arrived at the club from Stoke City in 2017, should be offered a fresh deal.

Whilst there are those who want the 5 ft 11 ace around heading into the 2019-2020 season, others feel that the club should cut their losses this summer.
